The full-scale invasion of the Russian invaders has been going on for the third year already, and the war, which in everyday life is called ATO, has been going on for more than 8 years. In general, Ukrainians have been living under stress and constant nervous tension for more than 10 years. The loss of loved ones, one's property, uncertainty in the future, the search for temporary shelter, unemployment, and the constant threat of rocket and bomb attacks leave their mark on physical and, most importantly, mental health. The number of people who need psychological (and sometimes psychiatric) help is estimated by specialists to be in the millions. Since the end of the war with such an insidious enemy with huge human and material resources is still difficult to expect, there is a high probability that every Ukrainian will need the attention of a psychologist.
What problems are characteristic of our present
The most vulnerable categories of Ukrainians are Ukrainian soldiers, who defend the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine every day at the limit of their physical capabilities. However, civilians also get their share of stress.
Most often, this leads to the development of:
- Post-traumatic stress disorder.
- Panic attacks.
- A constant feeling of anxiety.
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (stopped in childhood or adolescence).
- Problems with returning to social interaction.
- Problems with motivation.
- Fading of creativity.
- Insomnia.
- Erectile dysfunction on the background of anxiety.
What traditional medicine offers
Unfortunately, classical medicine is quite conservative and offers only repeatedly tested methods of treatment with dozens of confirmed studies. That is why new therapy algorithms are introduced to official guidelines in some places for a very long time, although in practice they show good results.
So, the main methods of assistance are considered to be:
- Work with a psychologist or psychotherapist.
- Taking antidepressants.
- Reception of neuroleptics.
- Reception of sedatives.
- Reception of tranquilizers.
- Taking antipsychotic drugs.
Despite the provenance of this approach, we fully understand that long-term use of the above-mentioned pharmacological agents also has side effects - addiction to some drugs, withdrawal syndrome, decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, loss of appetite, digestive disorders.
And in this case, it is worth looking at other methods that can, if not replace, then complement the classic ones.
